Ladybugs Fly Across the Nation in NLCI’s Earth Day Celebrations

Spring was in full swing this Earth Day at more than 40 Nobel Learning Communities, Inc., schools nationwide. Students participated in a variety of ladybug releases, tree dedications, plantings and stream clean-ups. Prior to the events, schools implemented an Earth Day curriculum which taught students the importance of taking care of the environment.

“This year’s Earth Day celebrations were extra special,” said Patty Miller, chief operating officer for Nobel Learning Communities, Inc. “The many touching events surrounding our Earth Day festivities, like the soldier’s homecoming and the remembrance of a beloved classmate, emphasize the importance of life and celebration. These events enrich both our students and our local communities and instill lasting impressions.”

Highlights of Earth Day Celebrations Include:

  • At Merryhill School in Flower Mound Texas, 5-year-old Hailey got an unexpected gift that was months in the making. During her class’ Earth Day presentation, her father, Blackhawk helicopter pilot, Jared Tynes, made an unexpected homecoming appearance from his Army unit in South Korea to surprise her.
  • In Dallas, Merryhill School students and their families made Earth Day extra special by honoring a student who had passed way from a brain tumor in early April. The students released nearly 4,500 ladybugs and planted a Texas Redwood tree in remembrance of their classmate.
  • In Germantown, Md., Chesterbrook Academy capped its Earth Day celebration with a ladybug release. Eager preschool students released more than 3,000 ladybugs into the air by hand to stimulate healthy plant growth in their local community.
  • At Touchstone School in Bothell, Wash., elementary students released salmon frye into a campus stream. The students raised the eggs in a school tank.
  • At Enchanted Care Learning Center in Delaware, Ohio preschoolers traveled to a local retirement home to release ladybugs with senior citizens.
