Our Difference

What is Montessori?

A Montessori education is a child-focused approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori that fosters rigorous, self-motivated growth in all areas of development. Montessori students learn at their own pace, taking time to meet individualized learning goals.

A Montessori classroom is easily recognizable. Children work independently or in small groups with specially designed, developmentally appropriate learning materials. Classrooms are organized on a multi-age model, which encourages long-term friendships and allows for continuity of the teacher/student relationship.

In addition to learning the foundations for math, science, language and arts, students develop practical life skills including dressing themselves, tying their shoes and washing their hands. A Montessori education is tailored to supporting children’s future success in their local and global communities.

Why Accreditation Matters

A Montessori education is not trademarked or regulated so the term is used broadly, even in schools that don’t use authentic Montessori techniques. This can mislead parents to believe that all Montessori schools are created equal. Accreditation by a reputable organization such as the American Montessori Society can help parents distinguish a real Montessori institution from one that is not.

Our Accreditations

Evergreen Academy (formerly Montessori Corner) is proud to be accredited by American Montessori Society and Middle States Association Commission on Elementary & Secondary Schools.

  • American Montessori Society (AMS) – Accreditation by the AMS is the gold standard of Montessori school excellence, the highest level of recognition a Montessori school can achieve. This accreditation means that our school meets and can sustain the rigorous standards recognized by Montessori educators worldwide and sets us on a path of ongoing evaluation, professional development, improvement and quality assurance.
  • Middle States Association Commission on Elementary & Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) – MSA-CESS respects the individual nature and character of each school. Although all schools with accreditation meet the same standards, there is flexibility for schools to demonstrate that they meet standards in different ways. MSA-CESS evaluates the whole school, not just test scores. Schools are assessed in 12 key areas: mission, governance and leadership, school improvement planning, finances, facilities, staff, health and safety, educational program, assessment and evidence of student learning, student services, student life and activities, and information resources.

Our Teachers

Our mission is to provide students with a rich and individualized education, tailored to support their future success in their local and global communities. All of our teachers have at minimum, four-year degrees and Montessori certification from an accredited organization. Many have been part of our Evergreen Academy (formerly Montessori Corner) family for more than 15 years and are well established in our community. Their expertise is a valuable asset not only to our students, but to our families as well.
