Specialty Classes Home / Academics / Specialty Classes Get More From Your Child’s Education Our diverse curriculum gives our students a well-rounded private school education, with classes that help them grow in all kinds of ways. Specialty classes let students explore their interests, try new skills, and discover what they enjoy! Classes include technology, language, the arts, and physical education. Each program is planned to meet national standards and support all areas of our students’ growth. By taking part in these courses, our students become curious learners who are prepared for what comes next. Learn More Technology & Coding All students have the opportunity to learn about the exciting world of technology every week. They also participate in computer coding for at least one trimester. With the help of the LEGO® Education WeDo software, students learn concepts such as algorithms and sequencing, debugging, functions, binary code, nested loops and conditionals, problem decomposition, and much more. Genius Hour Our 4th and 5th grade students have Genius Hour in the Innovation Lab each week. They are empowered to explore their own passions and solve challenges. They work from proposal, to design and presentation, with the support of a team of five educators. French Students learn French in fun ways like music, stories, games, and cultural activities. They practice listening and speaking by having conversations and acting out roles. They also read books and magazines in French that match their grade level. Over time, they learn to write, starting with simple sentences and moving to full paragraphs. Spanish Our students learn Spanish for speaking, listening, and writing. They connect what they learn with real-world experiences. Our goal is for our students to go beyond learning Spanish as just a subject and become comfortable using it in real life. They practice by speaking with friends, singing songs, and reading books Music Our music program starts in the early grades with vocal training in pitch matching, breath support, and echoing songs using the solfege alphabet. We learn famous tunes from both Western and Eastern music. We also enjoy moving to the beat and learning to express ourselves through rhythm. Our students perform in our winter show which helps build their confidence. As they get older, they learn to read music and play beginner instruments. Drama In Drama class, we practice speaking clearly, using good volume, making eye contact, showing emotions, and telling stories. Even though Drama is a team activity, our small classes make sure every child gets their own chance to shine on stage. Drama gives them a way to build skills they can use in school and beyond. Art Art is an important part of what we do at school. You can see over 600 pieces of our students’ art on Artsonia, the biggest online museum for kids’ art. Our school has won many awards there, and our art teacher, Ms. Lipp, has earned the Artsonia Leadership Award two years in a row! Our curriculum includes elements and principles of visual art. We also integrate periods in art history, artists’ biographies, multicultural art, and various styles. We explore techniques including oil pastels, pencils, paint, fabric, clay, mixed media, and more. Physical Education Our students learn about the importance of staying active and making healthy choices for a happy and balanced life. They do activities like running, jumping, and team sports to build their strength and balance. They also learn how to support their friends. These skills help our students feel confident and strong as they grow.
