Ms. Eliza Gabriel - First Grade

Welcome to Ms. Gabriel’s First Grade Class!

Thank you for visiting our classroom page! I am so excited for all of the wonderful moments that the 2019-2020 school year surely holds. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. My email address is eliza.gabriel@nlcinc.com and I will always respond withing 1 business day.

My Experience

I received my undergraduate degree in Rhetoric and Philosophy from Bates College (Lewiston, ME). I attended Touro College in New York and graduated with a Master’s in Early Childhood General and Special Education. This is my second year teaching First Grade at Evergreen Academy. I moved from Brooklyn, NY to Seattle in the summer of 2018, and I’m currently living in Ballard (quite a commute!). In New York I taught Third Grade, and served as the Grade Team Lead, at a charter school called Success Academy Cobble Hill.

My Teaching Philosophy

I strongly believe in every child’s ability to achieve and grow throughout the school year. I set a high bar in my classroom and I delight in watching students meet and exceed my high expectations. I want my students to adore school and become intrinsically motivated learners, so I strive to bring joy, fun, and satisfaction into each component of my students’ day. I keep Carol Dweck’s theories on Growth Mindset and Doug Lemov’s teaching techniques at the forefront of my practice.

My Interests

I’m an avid reader and I love talking about books, so if you’re reading anything wonderful please let me know! In my free time I’m either reading a book, working on a jigsaw puzzle, or taking a road trip.
